Regarding the status of job applications - all applicants - PLEASE READ

Applications received by the City of Dover for civil service (classified) positions are routed directly to civil service commission personnel for the following purposes:

- a review of qualifications/suitability for a given position; and 

- the subsequent creation of candidate eligibility lists for those positions when the demand arises. 

The selection of the most qualified applicants for an eligible candidate list is done independently by civil service personnel and is based on their determination of which candidates best meet the qualifications for the position. The eligible candidate list is then forwarded to city officials to contact candidates and schedule interviews.

Applicants who are chosen to be on the eligible candidate list for a given job opening/position should expect to be contacted to begin the interview process, which typically starts with a first-round interview with the respective department heads. 

Aside from making requests for an eligible candidate list for an open position, the HR office and other city offices are not to be involved in the creation of the civil service eligibility lists. Consequently, City of Dover offices are unable to provide candidates with their application "status" prior to the creation of a candidate eligibility list.

After an eligible candidate list is created and submitted to city officials, the City Human Resources office may be contacted via email (HR@doverohio.com) to be informed only whether your name appears on the eligible candidate list for a given classified service position. Otherwise, the interview process is where city officials typically begin interacting with applicants in the post-application phase.
