Water Department

Dover is fortunate to have long enjoyed clear, clean, abundant drinking water from wellfields maintained by the employees of the water department. In fact, Dover's water, though hard, was of sufficient quality to pump straight from the wells to the water system, without disinfection. Dover was the last City east of the Mississippi to treat its water supply, which was accomplished in the late 1990's. Dover's water is now filtered, with a small amount of chlorine added. No fluoride is used, and Dover's water is not softened prior to distribution.
